Bumper’s Garage is more than just the best gearhead children’s book series ever. It represents an entire culture. The story told in Bumper’s Garage is not just about Steve learning how to wrench on things on his way to becoming an adult. It’s also about the relationship he and Eli form. I’m fascinated by the men and women who take time out of their lives to share their knowledge and passion with others for no other reason than the joy it brings them to do so. Sure, they may get some cheap labor here and there, or some help lifting or holding things, but it’s clear the real satisfaction comes from sharing a piece of themselves with those who choose to hang around the shop.
